Why this venue works beautifully

Basils Farm sits on Swan Bay on the Bellarine Peninsula, looking across the water toward Queenscliff. The property runs to around 50 acres, with a Pavilion (living green wall, full weather protection), a farmhouse, expansive lawns, and cottage gardens between the two buildings. The Pavilion seats up to 104 banquet-style; the full property takes around 180 seated or 200 for cocktail.The bay is the anchor; any gallery that doesn't use the water in the first three frames is missing what this venue actually is, which is coastal, not vineyard. That distinction matters: rows of vines are the template most peninsula wineries lean on, and the Bellarine side of the bay offers something different, closer to beach-with-food than winery-with-view. Mid-sized guest lists move between the Pavilion and the lawns comfortably. Couples who want a proper Bellarine coastal day, with food and wine kept at restaurant level, use the property well.

The Pavilion has a living green wall and full weather protection, which makes the interior read differently from the outdoor areas. Use the green wall for framed portrait angles, not wide reception shots; it doesn't carry as far in wide compositions.

The expansive lawns and cottage gardens between the farmhouse and the Pavilion are the portrait corridor. A 10-minute walk covers everything worth shooting; the property is compact despite the 50-acre footprint.

Late afternoon and sunset are when the bay takes colour. Build the timeline so the couple is outside during that window; Queenscliff across the water only prints when the light drops.
