The world without photography will be meaningless to us if there is no light and color, which opens up our minds and expresses passion.

Encore St Kilda is at the southern end of St Kilda Beach, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing Port Phillip Bay and an outdoor terrace running across the front of the building. Inside, operable walls divide a single large function room into smaller configurations, with a built-in dance floor, two private bridal suites, and a rooftop ceremony space that’s available through the summer months.
Beach views from a function venue aren’t unique in St Kilda, but Encore’s scale changes what’s possible. The flexible-wall layout flexes from 50-guest intimate weddings up to 700-cocktail receptions in the same building, which is uncommon for a waterfront site. Rooftop ceremonies in summer add an outdoor option that’s genuinely separate from the indoor reception space, not a marginal balcony.
Time the ceremony for the second half of the afternoon. The eastern glazing fills the room with reflected bay light at that point, and direct sun on guests stays low enough not to squint.
Rooftop ceremonies are summer-only logistics. Plan the format around November to March; outside that window, the wind speed across an exposed rooftop becomes the limiting factor, not the temperature.
Two bridal suites mean parallel prep coverage. Send a second shooter to the partner suite for symmetric morning photos; the layout was built for that and most couples leave the option unused.
The operable walls reshape the room between ceremony and reception. Pre-shoot the empty floor configuration during setup so you’ve documented the architectural skeleton before styling buries it.
Bay-light portraits work strongest from the eastern terrace, not the rooftop. The terrace sits one level below with a closer water-edge crop; rooftop portraits tend to flatten the bay into background pattern.
Real weddings at this venue reveal more than any venue description ever could — the light, pacing, and emotional texture of the day.
If you’re getting married at this venue, we’d love to help shape the visual story with a calm, cinematic, and genuinely personal approach.
