The world without photography will be meaningless to us if there is no light and color, which opens up our minds and expresses passion.

Forest Edge runs across 20 acres in Gembrook, on the eastern edge of the Dandenong Ranges, about 50 minutes east of Melbourne. The property has two ceremony positions: an elevated terraced garden looking across to the Warburton and Yarra ranges, and a French-inspired wine bar with cathedral ceilings and oak beams covering indoor format. The main reception room opens through floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the rolling country, so the view stays in the picture across the evening instead of cutting out at sunset.
Reception capacity is 120 seated or 150 cocktail. Boutique on-site accommodation lets a smaller guest list stay overnight, which suits weddings running into late evenings without the inland Dandenong drive logistics. The property fits couples wanting outdoor ceremony with a working indoor backup that has its own aesthetic, not a stripped-back rain plan. The wine-bar interior produces a different aesthetic from the terrace, so weather changes don’t strip the day of its visual direction.
Shoot the terraced-garden wide with the ranges in the background through ceremony, then come back at sunset for the same composition under different light. Two frames of the same view across the day reads as a stronger story than ten different angles.
The wine-bar oak beams sit at a height that interacts with off-camera flash awkwardly. Bounce off the cathedral ceiling instead of side-lighting; the beam shadow lines come back too hard with direct off-camera setups.
Keep the bridal party off the terrace edge during ceremony; the elevation drops behind the position and a drone or wide pulled too far back loses the couple against the deep horizon.
On overcast days the ranges go grey and the floor-to-ceiling windows turn the room into a softbox. Use that, don’t fight it; switch portraits inside and shoot through the diffused window light.
